VSD Staff Attorney Lauren Thompson
The Harris County VSD is hosting a Medical POA (Power of Attorney) workshop to help veterans generate a POA. Our Staff Attorney Lauren Thompson will assist veterans with any legal questions and the POA generation.
What is a Medical POA?
A Medical Power of Attorney gives Veterans the ability to give a designated person the authority to make all health care decisions in accordance with their wishes, including their religious and moral beliefs, when they are no longer capable of making them their selves.
Why is a Medical POA Important?
If a Veteran is unable to make their own health care decisions and does not have a medical power of attorney, Texas state law will determine who is able to make health care decisions for the Veterans.
Who makes medical decisions for a Veteran who does not have a Medical POA?
Under Texas state law, the following persons( listed in priority) will make decisions for the Veteran: Spouse, adult children, parents, or nearest living relative.
